As part of my, get out and do more mantra this year, a few weeks ago my friend Meghan and I decided to make a day of exploring. I already shared our experiences playing on the swings and coffee time in East Austin, but what I haven't told you yet, is that our day didn't end there.
Since moving to Austin I've heard a lot about the beautiful views from Mt. Bonnell and Meghan decided we needed to drive over so I could see what all the fuss was about. I was surprised how close it was to the city. The drive up the "mountain" was quite scenic--million dollar homes line the winding roads all the way to the top. We parked and set out to climb these beautiful stone steps the rest of the way to the clearing.
A few minutes later, and slightly more winded than before, I found myself looking out at one of the most beautiful 360 degree views of Austin. It was an abnormally cold and windy day so we didn't stay too long but the beauty of Texas from this height was absolutely stunning.
Because of the cold, and it being the middle of the week, we were fortunate enough to pretty much have the mountain to ourselves. Apparently on the weekends and in warm weather, this place is packed with people.
It was fun to look at all the beautiful homes down below us on the river, many of which have their own private canals winding to the back of their home/mansions for their personal boats. Fancy.
Although it was ridiculously chilly at the top, I'm so glad I was finally able to enjoy these beautiful views so praised throughout Austin.
