Brown Paper Packages

I love getting mail. Of course, I am not referring to bills, although to be quite honest, I really do love opening envelopes of any kind. More specifically, I love getting packages, especially unexpected ones. It's not that I want people to give/buy me things. I just love the attitude behind a just because gift. A little something to remind me that I am loved. If that sounds selfish, perhaps I should also mention that I enjoy sending these just because gifts just as much as I enjoy receiving them. To get to the point, Jack and I usually receive three unexpected packages per year from a single person, his mom.

Without fail, three times a year my sweet mother-in-law takes the time to throw together a couple little items to help celebrate whichever holiday we are nearing. Typically the boxes arrive at the beginning of Fall, one for Christmas and again around Easter. These packages help usher in the season ahead with decorations, sweets and baked goods, random treats, children's books (holiday themed), and baking supplies.

If you haven't guessed by now, we received our Easter box from mom this week. We never seem to remember that these packages are coming, but as soon as we see the box, we know and are instantly excited to open it up and explore all the little treasures inside.

It's the unexpected surprises like this that mean so much to me. It doesn't have to be expensive or take hours of labor to create, just a small gesture can go a long way to brightening someone's day. What can you do to bring a little cheer to someone you love today?
